Arrangements and Transcriptions

Arrangements

Some songs I arranged for solo guitar.

White Christmas for Solo Guitar [page 1 | page 2 | page 3 | Midi | mp3]

I did this arrangement many, many years ago (it was typeset in Encore on Windows 3.1). Fairly easy to play with typical chord fingerings. I actually discovered copies of this arrangement floating around on the Web, and people making videos of themselves playing it.

Moon River for Solo Guitar [PDF (50Kb, 2 pages) | Midi]

This is my own arrangement in E major, typeset in ABC. This particular key allows me to play the second verse one octave higher than the first! I had to make some trade-offs in chords for the second part though.

Classical Guitar Transcriptions

Some of my transcriptions of classical pieces, all typeset in ABC:

  • Bach: Air from BWV1068 [PDF (42Kb)] – We’ve all heard this one.
  • Bach: Bourree from BWV996 [PDF (35Kb)] – I’ve seen so many different fingerings for this piece. This is one possible set of solutions.
  • Six Cello Suites by Bach [PDF (1.36Mb)] – I transcribed this directly from the cello scores, and transposed them to the “guitar friendly” keys as suggested by Stanley Yates on his website. Note that this is a direct transposition (i.e. no attempt at re-arrangement) and so not everything can be played directly on the guitar! Btw, I have Stanley Yates arrangement of the Cello Suites and recommend buying them.
  • Carulli’s 12 Romances for two guitars [PDF (528Kb)] – I transcribed them off some midi files I found long ago.

Mandolin Transcriptions

I don’t play mandolin that well. Anyway here are my transcriptions of some of the classical mandolin “standards”:

  • Vivaldi’s Concerto in D major RV93
  • Vivaldi’s Mandolin Concerto in C major RV425
  • Vivaldi’s Concerto for two Mandolins in G major RV532
  • Beethoven’s Sonatina in C major Op44a
